What do the 4 Gospels Teach Us?
The four gospels of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, each present a unique perspective on Jesus and his teachings, but they all teach us about the nature and character of God as Father.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus is presented as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies and the King of the Jews. God is depicted as the Father who sent his Son, Jesus, to save humanity from their sins. Matthew also emphasizes Jesus’ teachings on the kingdom of God, which is often described as a “father’s house” (Matthew 13:43) where there is a loving Father who welcomes his children.
In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus is presented as the servant of God who came to serve and not to be served. God is depicted as the Father who sent his Son, Jesus, to serve humanity and to bring them salvation. Mark also emphasizes Jesus’ teachings on the urgency of repentance and the coming of the kingdom of God.
In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus is presented as the Son of Man who came to bring salvation to all people, especially to the marginalized and oppressed. God is depicted as the Father who sent his Son, Jesus, to bring good news to the poor and to proclaim release to the captives. Luke also emphasizes Jesus’ teachings on the love and compassion of God and the importance of caring for others.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus is presented as the eternal Word of God who became flesh and dwelt among us. God is depicted as the Father who sent his Son, Jesus, to reveal himself to humanity and to bring eternal life. John also emphasizes Jesus’ teachings on the nature of God as love, and the importance of having a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus.
In summary, the four gospels of the New Testament all teach us about God as Father through the person and teachings of Jesus. They emphasize God’s love, compassion, mercy, and grace, as well as his sovereignty and authority. They also teach us about the importance of repentance, faith, and obedience to God, and the need to have a personal relationship with God through Jesus
